Family Services:
Tabor Lodge recognises chemical dependancy/addiction as a disease that affects the whole family. Therefore, the goal of the Tabor Lodge Family Programme is recovery for the whole Family. Through education and information and through treatment and support family members can make significant changes in their own lives and establish a programme of recovery for themselves. At the same time the family can be a significant resource in the effective treatment of their chemically dependent loved one.
As part of the 28 day Primary Treatment Programme at Tabor Lodge, each Wednesday the Family Programme starts from 10am until 5pm. Education, discussion and support is given on the following subjects:
- Addiction/Denial
- Enabling
- Treatment & Relapse
- Family Roles
- Spirituality & Addiction
- Addiction and the brain
- Co-dependancy & Addiction
- Detachment & Addiction
On completion of the 4 Wednesdays of the Family Programme in Tabor Lodge, a 12 Week Support Group is formed to help the family in transition back to life from addiction. Following on from the 12 week programme a Co-dependency Support Group is held weekly.
Family Intervention:
A Family intervention is when a family member contacts Tabor Lodge and is referred to the Family Counsellor, an appointment is made for the family member or members to come to Tabor Lodge and the appropriate support is given to help the family affected by the addiction of a family member.
Family Education & Information Programme:
A Family Education & Information Programme takes place in La Verna Hall, Grattan Street, Cork City every Friday morning from 10am to 12 noon over a four week period.
This consists of lectures covering topics such as the following:
- Addiction/Denial
- Impact of the Family
- Enabling
- Intervention/Accessing Help
This programme includes a discussion and support group.
A donation applies but money should not be an obstacle to you attending. You are also welcome to attend if you are accompanying a family.
Treatment Programme for Family Members:
When the client leaves Tabor Lodge after treatment or the family member finishes the education programme in La Verna Hall. The family members are encouraged to attend a support group for twelve weeks to help them in transition from the addictive behaviour to a new way of communicating with each other.
At these meetings family members are encouraged to look at their own life and how addiction has enables them to look at addict rather than self. This time is to help the family member to empower change from within with the help of the group process and trained facilitators.
One to One/Relationship/Family Counselling:
Short term counselling is provided to stabilise and support family members in crisis due to a loved one’s chemical dependency. This is a confidential service.
